Jezebel reports that Helena is set to star in a new television mini-series based on Jami Attenberg‘s novel, Saint Mazie. Interestingly, Helena will also be producing the series, along with Suffragette producer, Faye Ward.
Helena will play Mazie Gordon-Phillips, who Attenberg described as a “deeply flawed, self-indulgent, extremely boozy” woman who had “quite a mouth on her.”
In a statement to Deadline, Faye Ward said:
“Our story unveils a woman in the middle of her life, a local legend who lifted the spirit of a community and yet barely moved beyond the perimeter of two square miles. She was in love with the streets and the people, she saw beauty in the dirt. It is exciting to think of Helena on screen oozing the spirit of this courageous woman. [Writer Clara Brennan’s] witty and political voice is perfect for Mazie and her world.”
Exciting news! Helena has reportedly been cast in an all-female spin-off of Ocean’s Eleven. Sandra Bullock is will be taking on the lead role as the sister of Danny Ocean, while Helena’s Cinderella co-star, Cate Blanchett will play the second lead akin to Brad Pitt’s character, Rusty. George Clooney, who played the role of Danny Ocean in the original films, is set to be a producer on the new film, which has a working title of Ocean’s Ocho. Star of The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling and The Hunger Games actress, Elizabeth Banks have also signed up, while Jennifer Lawrence is rumored to be interested in the project.
The Hunger Games director, Gary Ross will be teaming up with the original director of Ocean’s Eleven, Steven Soderbergh. Continuing the female lead, Olivia Milch is credited at a writer on the film’s IMDb page. According to The Independent, the film’s premise will see the all-female collective team up in order to steal a necklace from the Met Ball so they can frame a villainous gallery owner.
A very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Helena, who is celebrating her 50th birthday today!

Helena Bonham Carter has never been afraid to let her freak flag fly, either on-screen or off. In Disney’s return trip to Lewis Carroll’s nonsensical Wonderland, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” opening Friday, the two-time Oscar nominee reprises her role as the bombastic, egomaniacal Red Queen, who tries to thwart Alice (Mia Wasikowska) as she travels back in time to try to save Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter.
On a recent afternoon in Los Angeles, we spoke to Bonham Carter about standing apart in homogenized Hollywood, working with frequent collaborator and longtime partner Tim Burton, from whom she separated in 2014, turning 50 and scaring small children.
