Helena to star in ‘Burton & Taylor’

The BBC Controller of Drama, Ben Stephenson has announced the new commissions for this year, including the 90-minute drama Burton & Taylor, with Helena apparently starring as Elizabeth Taylor. You may remember that Helena co-starred with Bill Nighy in a radio adaptation of Private Lives.

1 x 90 minute single drama, written by William Ivory (Women in Love, Bert & Dickie), made by BBC Drama Productions for BBC Four.

Dominic West (The Hour, The Wire) and Helena Bonham Carter (Toast, Great Expectations), play the volatile ex-lovers in the story of their ill-fated appearance in a 1983 revival of Noël Coward’s stage play, Private Lives.

Burton & Taylor is a drama about one of the most fascinating, glamorous and tempestuous relationships of the 20th century, that of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, the two most famous movie stars of their day who played out every high and low of their love affair, their marriages and divorces right in the public eye.

The executive producer for the BBC is Jessica Pope. The director is Richard Laxton (Effie, Him and Her, Hancock) and the producer is Lachlan McKinnon (Silent Witness).
