This would only happen with Helena Bonham Carter.
The Harry Potter and The King’s Speech actress, 47, saved the day during her cover photo shoot with British Vogue when she pulled a fake moustache out of her purse – one she just happened to be carrying around.
“My favourite image of her is the moustache picture,” said British Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers.
“I had brought this hat along and when I put it on her said, ‘I wish I had a moustache to go with it,'” Chambers revealed.
“Then Helena chimed in with: ‘I’ve got a moustache in my bag’ and whipped it out. And I thought, ‘Of course you have a moustache in your bag, you’re Helena Bonham Carter,’ and I loved her for that.”
Chambers said that she has known the actress “forever” and she wanted to convey her intelligence in the shoot. Helena Bonham Carter is on the cover of British Vogue’s “Ageless” July issue.
“She’s done really interesting films – she’s like the female Johnny Depp,” Chambers said. Bonham Carter has appeared with Depp in several films directed by Carter’s partner, director Tim Burton, including Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“She could be Hollywood, but it’s the film choices she’s made that set her apart. And what I love about her is that she has her own style, she loves what she loves and she’s an incredibly confident woman, but she’s totally up for change,” Chambers continued.
“Most celebrities want to repeat what they’ve honed and are comfortable in, but she’s up for doing anything which is unusual in an actress.”
Bonham Carter was photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Chambers noted that she didn’t give Bonham Carter any “character” for any of the pictures, but that the actress became a new character with each change of clothes – including the moustache.
