Visiting a School in London

Posted by: Filed under: Gallery Update, Helena News Leave a Comment (0)

Helena visited a school on 15th July to talk to pupils about their upcoming charity trip, funded (at least in part) by Helena. These photos were posted on Twitter and Instagram, where some of the pupils answered questions about their meeting with Helena.

[In response to questions about the meeting] Met Helena Bonham Carter today. She’s paying for my charity trip to South Africa…She came to my school to talk to a couple of us…She just asked some questions about a trip I’m going on this summer and signed a couple things…Only like 10 of us were allowed to and the 10 had to keep it a secret…She was talking to us for like 1/1 and a half hours…She’s so down to earth. Her daughter was there too and they were being so cute.

[Responding to questions about when, where and why] yes at my school in london, she was very casual, it really didn’t feel like i was talking to a film star, she is super nice too…she is the patron of my teachers charity that we are doing charity work with.

[Were you nervous speaking with her?] not at all, she really makes you feel comfortable and she is very welcoming.

Note: if you are featured in either photo and you do not wish for your face to be shown, or would like the image to be removed altogether, please email us and we’ll happily change it.

“I’m body confident”

Posted by: Filed under: Helena News Leave a Comment (0)

Helena Bonham Carter suffered from a lack of self-confidence when she was a young woman. The actress is loved for her eccentric style and often indulges fans with wacky outfits on the red carpet.

At 48, she’s finally learnt to accept who she is.

“When I was a young woman I had no self-confidence,” she admitted to German magazine Brigitte. “But I just can’t be bothered to worry about what people think. Life is too short. For no money in the world would I want to be young again.”

Helena has no interest in conforming to the Hollywood ideal of super-slim actresses. Instead, she’s happy to embrace her looks.

“I like to eat, that’s why I have curves, and it’s also benefited my face,” she said. “I think it’s sad that our lives are dictated by someone saying: ‘You can’t eat this or that if you want your body to conform to someone’s ideal.’ It means food becomes associated with guilt, but really it should be a source of pleasure.”

Helena might feel comfortable in her own skin, but she still doesn’t like watching herself on screen. The only exception is 2001′s Planet of the Apes, in which she plays primate Ari.

“In that film, my face disappears behind an ape mask and doesn’t distract me,” she explained.

Last month, Helena stepped out in London, looking gothic glam in a black lace dress with dark red lipstick. She has previously admitted she doesn’t always hit the nail on the head with her looks.

“Sometimes I see the end product and think, ‘Jesus, that’s not what I meant at all,’” she laughed in an interview with Style magazine.

Helena’s game obsession

Posted by: Filed under: Helena News Leave a Comment (0)

According to Yahoo News, Helena Bonham Carter is “addicted” to Candy Crush Saga.

The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet actress tries to limit the access her children Billy, 10, and Nell, 6, have to gaming devices, but feels a bit hypocritical because she plays the sweet-swapping game whenever she can.

She said: “The challenge is to find something we all like doing and to get the children away from the screens, like iPads. Although I can’t be too strict as I’m a bit addicted to Candy Crush.”

When they’re not playing computer games, Helena says her family love to get creative together, with her partner Tim Burton being a gifted artist.

She added: “Like anyone else we need to eat, run a household, but we’re good at games and making things. Tim is good at drawing and painting, that’s the one thing we like to do together, drawing and painting and making things.”

And the brunette beauty is fascinated by her kids’ imaginations.

She added to Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Pretty much every child is born with imagination. I love my children and their unique perspective. A kid’s take on things is totally original, until it gets stamped out of them by school and the rest of us. The need to conform is pretty endemic in society.”

Helena finds parenthood hard

Posted by: Filed under: Helena News Leave a Comment (0)

Helena Bonham Carter is worried she’s doing “badly” at parenting, says Contact Music.

The 48-year-old actress admits finds it difficult juggling her career with caring for Billy, 10, and Nell, six – her children with partner Tim Burton – and she is often left feeling she isn’t doing anything as well as she could.

She told HELLO! magazine: “Juggling motherhood with acting is hard and I’m always dropping balls all the time. You always feel you’re doing everything badly.”

“Tim’s taking time out now and I think I’ll do the same. We’re trying to be parents, which is harder than anything else.”

Helena knows she is in a ‘lucky’ position with her career, but admits her busy schedule leaves her exhausted. She explained: “The multi-tasking is tiring. I’m not saying it’s a big deal, not if you enjoy your work, and I’m lucky enough to make a living from something I love, but there’s always something.”

Despite the actress’ mother Elena suffering a breakdown when Helena was five, and her father Raymond left paralysed and partially-blind after surgery for a brain tumour seven years later, the Alice in Wonderland star insists she had a perfect childhood and hopes to be as good a parent as her own.

She said: “I had a very, very happy upbringing. I hope I can be half as good a parent to my children as they have been to me. And I know Tim is a great father.”
